J. R. Davis, a long time and highly esteemed resident of this city, passed away, January 6th, at the Soldier's home at Marshalltown, where he has lived the past two years. Mr. Davis was born in Wales, October 15, 1838. He came to America while a young man and at the breaking out of the war he enlisted under the stars and stripes. He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Wm. Arthur, of the Welsh Neighborhood. Funeral services were held this (Thursday) afternoon, from the M. E. church conducted by Rev. T. M. Balcoff. Interment in the Columbus City cemetery.
