Wyman L. Ayers, a prominent merchant and well known pioneer citizen, passed away at his home here Sunday afternoon, Dec. 18, 1913, death was due apoplexy. Mr. Ayers was first stricken over a year ago. His condition at that time was very serious but gradually grew stronger until a second attack resulted in his death.

For many years he has been one of the leading retail merchants of this city. He established at once a reputation for honesty that brought him an immense trade from all over this section of the state. The business grew from year to year, other lines of merchandise were added in later years he transacted a large retail department store. Wyman L. Ayers, son of Warren and Elizabeth Ayers, was born at Osceola, Wisconsin, March 11, 1858. At the age of five years he came to Columbus City with his parents and has resided in this vicinity ever since. He was united in marriage to Miss Eva May, July 24, 1878 to which union two children were born, Warren and Glenn. The former preceded his father in death October 8, 1896, aged 16 years, 11 months and 23 days. He is survived by his wife; son, Glenn; mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Alburn; sister, Mrs. Clara Fish; half brother, Fred Alburn; and half sister, Mona Alburn. His father died when he was but five years of age. The funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church at 2 p. m., Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. T. M. Balcoff. Interment was made in Columbus City cemetery.
