Friday September 19, 1913, occurred the death of Mrs. Sidney Emerson at her home in Conesville. Mrs. Emerson was born August 11, 1833, at Culpeper, Virginia and when quite young she moved to Adams Mills, Ohio. In 1850 she was united in marriage to Charles Emerson and soon after moved to Illinois where they lived until in 1842 when they came to Iowa and have lived here ever since, having lived here over sixty years and being among the earliest of Iowa's settlers. Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Emerson, four died in infancy and the following survive: Ida Mae, wife of J. E. Jenkins of Muskogee, Okla.; Belle, wife of George Brown of Conesville; Effie, wife of Lewis Annan of Moline, Ill; Laura, wife of Thomas Van Tyl of Kankakee, Ill., and Holly at home. She also raised and cared for her granddaughter, Mina, wife of Maurice Jones of Wyman, Ia., since she was a baby a few days old. The funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at the Grace Reformed church and conducted by her pastor, Rev. C. E. Ewing. Interment was made in the Conesville cemetery.
