James A. Carson, a highly respected farmer living northwest of Cotter, died Sunday after an illness of many months. Mr. Carson was born in Blount county, Tennessee, May 16, 1841 and died May 18, 1913, aged 72 years and 2 days. He came to Iowa at the age of 15 and with his parents located on the farm which has since been his home. He was married in 1877 to Miss Sarah J. Hancher and to this union was born one son, who died in infancy. Two children R. C. Hancher and sister, now Mrs. Viola McA?, nephew and niece of Mrs. Carson, were raised in this home and with the aged helpmate and one sister of Mr. Carson, are left to mourn his death. Mr. Carson was an active farmer until his health failed him. He was a member of the Methodist church and the funeral services, which were conducted by the pastor of the M. E. church of Ainsworth, were held in the home on Tuesday afternoon with burial in the Ainsworth cemetery.
