Mrs. Mary Katherine Stemen, a well known resident of Conesville, died at her home near that city, Monday evening at 10 o'clock after an illness of eleven days from pneumonia. Her niece, Miss Lizzie Coder a trained nurse from Hershey hospital at Muscatine, was in constant attendance at her bedside and everything possible was done to save her life. Mrs. Stemen was born April 18, 1864 in Muscatine county. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Kerr. She is survived by her husband, J. L. Stemen and three children, Mrs. B. L. Cecil of Lisbon and Lester and Faith at home. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. L. G. Coder of Lake Township and three brothers, Thomas Kerr and Arthur Rankin of Nevada and Oscar Rankin of California. She is also survived by her mother, Mrs. Eliza Rehmel. She was converted and became a member of the Christian church at the age of 19 and her life has been fully testified to the soundness of her conversion. Funeral services were held from the home Wednesday at 1 o'clock in charge of Rev. C. E. Ewing. Interment in the Cone cemetery.
