John L. Thomas died at his home in Mediapolis last Sunday evening, February 18, at 5 o'clock. He was buried in the Cambrain cemetery, in the Welsh Neighborhood, Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Thomas was born in Wales, October 26, 1856, consequently was well on to eighty years of age at his death. He came to America in 1854, soon after settling in Des Moines county which continued his home. In 1881 he was married to Miss Mary A. Dudley, who survives him. No children were born to them.

The funeral was conducted by Rev. W. G. Oglevie, of the Presbyterian church, Mr. Thomas' wife being a communicant of that church. The remains were brought to this place on the 11 o'clock train and laid to rest beside those of his brother, the late Dennis Thomas of the Welsh neighborhood, in the Cambrain cemetery. Mr. Thomas was a prominent citizen of Des Moines county and president of the Citizens saving bank of Mediapolis. The officials of that bank attended the funeral.
