The death of R. W. Lee, which occurred at his home in Seattle, Washington, Wednesday morning, February 14, was very sudden and came as a terrible shock to his wife and family who thought him in the very best of health. Mrs. Lee had been spending the autumn and winter with friends here, at Cedar rapids and Ottumwa. She had intended to start for home on the 15th, but was prevailed upon by her friends to remain a week or so longer, but received the sad intelligence of her husband's death before she would have started. In Mr. Lee's death, a good man has been called away.

He was born in Champaign county Ohio, August 28, 1840. His mother died when he was quite young. In 1853 he came with his father, brothers and sisters to Iowa. They settled in Louisa county near the line of Muscatine and that immediate vicinity continued to be his home until 1899 when he removed to Cedar Rapids. Went from there to Seattle in 1904. April 2, 1867, he was united in marriage to Miss Julia S. Cecil of Muscatine. She, with four children born to them, survive and all were here to attend the last sad rites. The children are H. E. Lee of Palmyra, Mo., and the three daughters Mmes. Etta L. Brown of Seattle, Ethel L. Hills of Ottumwa and Mildred L. Rau of Cedar Rapids. Besides these, he leaves several grandchildren and two brothers and two sisters to mourn with them. The brothers are J. C. Lee of Cairo and R. E. Lee of Decatur City; the sisters, Mrs. Fannie Hankins of Kellerton and Mrs. Mary Stump of Biythedale, Missouri.

Mr. Lee had long been a member of the Methodist church at Letts and at Cedar Rapids, but transferred his letter to the Congregational church at Seattle. The funeral services took place at the Methodist church in Letts on Tuesday. February 20, at 2 o'clock p. m., conducted by Rev. Longnecker, the pastor. Interment was at the cemetery of that place.
