Mrs. Martha M. Harris, wife of J. M. Harris, died at her home in this place Monday morning, at 1:30 o'clock, August 21, 1905. Martha Dodds was born in Washington county, Ohio in 1858. She was a member of a family of eleven children. Three of these, with her parents, have been dead for some years, she being the fourth of the children to pass over the river. The survivors of the family are James, of Lamar, Colorado; William R., of Boone; Robert, of Ames; Ann, of Lakis, Kansas; Thos. B. and John, or Wheeling, W. Va., and George A., of Garden City, Kansas. Only one of these, William, was present at the time of her death. Mrs. George A. Dodds was with her some weeks prior to the end.

Miss Dodds came to Iowa in 1876, settling in Story county. On February 20, 1879, at Corning she was united in marriage to J. M. Harris, who survives her. Their home was in Corning until 1886 when they came to Louisa county, settling in Columbus City, coming subsequently to Columbus Junction which continued her home until the end. From early childhood, she was a member of the U. P. church, but she united with the Presbyterian church after coming to Columbus Junction and was a consistent Christian woman in all relation of life. The funeral took place form the home Wednesday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, conducted by her pastor. Rev. J. R. Vance. Interment followed in the beautiful Columbus City cemetery.
