Hugh Jones, an old and respected citizen of this county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Summerville, at 10:30 p. m. Tuesday. He was born in Wales December 25, 1819 and came to America in 1847. Was married to Miss Sarah Barnard at Moscow, Iowa, July 16, 1854. They lived in Louisa county many years; in Oakland and Union townships and at Cairo. For the past year they have lived with Mr. and Mrs. Summerville.

Twelve children were born to them, two of whom died in infancy and one daughter, Mrs. Wm. Flack, died seventeen years ago. Five sons and four daughters survive. These are H. E., at Old Clifton; Price, who has been in the hospital at Mt pleasant for many years, Horace M. and Les in Colorado, and Frank, who has not been heard from for several years, Mrs. Lorinet Brown and Mrs. John Summerville of Union township, Mrs. Emma McCracken of Oskaloosa and Mrs. Lillie Smith of Hancock, Minn. The wife and sixteen grandchildren also survive him. The funeral was held at the home where he died Thursday morning, October 12, conducted by Rev. J. C. Kendrick, with interment at the Colton graveyard in Union township.
