Sarah A. Williams was born in Wayne county, Ohio, March 18, 1821. She died at her home in this place, Monday morning October 2, 1905. She was, consequently, more than 83 years of age at the time of her death. Her maiden name was Clark. On September 12, 1839, she was married to Ablathar Williams, who died May 25, 1886. With her husband, she came to Iowa in 1842, living first where Clinton now is, but coming to this vicinity in 1852, and continued a resident of this county until her death. She was the mother of four children, two sons and two daughters. Of these, two survive her. There are Mrs. Josephine W. Dotson, of this place and Ward W. Williams, of Wapello. The others were James M. who died in infancy and Ledore, who died in 1858 at the age of five.

Mrs. Williams was one of the oldest pioneers of Iowa surviving. She was used to all the hardships common to the early settlers in the 40's. She had long been a member of the Christian or Disciples church and a consistent Christian woman. She was kind hearted, charitable and always pleasant. The funeral services were conducted at the home, Wednesday, October 4, at 1 o'clock p. m. by her pastor, Rev. S. R. Drake. Immediately after all that was left of her was carried to Long Creek cemetery and laid beside the companion and children gone long years before.
