Catnip Ridge, August 8- Word came to us this morning of the drowning of one of Al Hinkley's boys Saturday evening. He had helped a neighbor thrash in the afternoon and on returning home along with smaller brothers of the same family went in a slough to bathe but had only been in a short while when he was violently taken with cramp and no assistance but little brothers near was drowned before help could reach him. It was a sad affair; his funeral was held at the home of his parents Sunday afternoon and interment made in the Lone Tree cemetery.

Ellis J. Hinkley, eighteen years old was drowned in a pond near Lone Tree, Saturday evening. He had gone in swimming. No one was with him but a younger brother. He was buried Sunday.
