John T. Bowman was born in Tennessee, May 31, 1841 and died at his home in Columbus City, September 27, 1904 at the age of a little more then 63 years. In 1863 he enlisted in the 11th Iowa and infantry and remained until the expiration of his term. With the exception of the time spent in the army his home, since 1852, has been in Columbus City, with his sister, Anna, who has so tenderly cared for him through his last, long sickness. Soon after his return from the war he was converted and joined the U. B. church and when the time came that he knew the end was near, he looked to the Lord of former days. He arranged his own funeral. The pall bearers were comrades of his old company and the writer was chosen to conduct the funeral services to be assisted by brothers Kendrick and Wilson.
