Abner Ball was born at Connersville, Fayette county, Indiana, on October 25, 1832, to Davis and Rhoda Ball. When a boy he was "bound out" to a saddler, and at the age of twenty-one, in 1853 came to this county and resided in this part of the county until his death. During 1854 he was married to Janie Wykert who died April 22, 1878. During their twenty-four years of married life, there were born to them four children, all sons. Of these, one died in infancy and one, Franklin, when seven years old. The two living are Almond T, living south west of Wapello and John M, residing near his father's late home.

On September 2, 1879, he was again united in wedlock with Almeda Huffman. Their life together was also twenty-four years and to them were three children given, two sons and one daughter. Little Ruth was but two years of age when death called her. Alvah lives near the old home and Wilbur A., a boy of eleven, is at home. Mr. Ball leaves a sister, Mrs. Amzl Donaldson, and a half sister, Mrs. J. S, Wykert, both of this county; and two half brothers, Samuel and William Ludlow, of Scott county, Kansas.

During early manhood he was converted in Indiana and though never forming any church home, has always lived an open life and a life of harmonious record with his views of the great Truth. His long residence in this county and his honorable life have made him a large circle of acquaintances and friends who feel the loss of a trusted one. The funeral was from his late home six miles northwest of Wapello on Sunday, March 13, 1904. The services were conducted by Rev Schultze of Wapello and interment was in the family lot in the Long Creek cemetery.
