page 1James A. Duncan was born in Blout county, Tennessee, June 6, 1826; came to Iowa in 1847; married to Melinda Duncan, who died last July, in 1848; died at the place February 25, 1904. These are the simple annals of a long and well spent life. Of the nine children born to Mr. and Mrs. Duncan, seven survive; these being Mrs. Wm. Grimes, Allerton; Mrs. R. O. Johnston, Garnett, Kansas; Mrs. H. E. Orr, Union township and Mmes W. D. Pyles, I. A. Endsley and E. W. Murdock, and Charles R. Duncan, of this place. The funeral was conducted from the home of W. D. Pyles Saturday, conducted by Rev. Joseph Story of Washington. He had, nearly all his life, been a consistent member of the U. B. church and died in full relationship with that organization.
