Daniel McCarthy died at his home in this place Tuesday noon, November 24. His death was the result of a broken limb from an accident which occurred almost a year ago and from which he never recovered. Mr. McCarthy was born near Cork, Ireland, March 17, 1833. Came to America at the age of twenty. His first years here were spent in the east. At Boston, in 1849, he was married to Miss Mary Donohue. In 1862 he and family moved to Iowa, settling near the line of Washington and Louisa counties. Six months later his wife died leaving a family of two sons and two daughters, who survive the father. These are Mrs. John Colton of Union township, Charles of Columbus Junction, Mrs. Ella Thompson and Daniel Jr. of Ainsworth.

In 1871 Mr. McCarthy was married to Miss Katherine Tobin who survived him and who through all the months of suffering and weariness has cared for and ministered to him day and night with unceasing devotion. To them one son was born, who died when about five years of age.

Mr. McCarthy was an honest man, a kind husband and father and a good citizen. Funeral services will be held from St. James Catholic church at Washington at 10 o'clock on Thursday, with interment in the Catholic cemetery near that place.
