Our correspondent from Lone Tree, near Grandview, refers to the death of Mrs. Mary Eddy, formerly of Columbus City. It was in 1883, we think, that she was taken to the hospital at Mt. Pleasant. Two years later, having been pronounced incurable, she was returned and has since made her home at the county farm. Mrs. Eddy, even in her worst hours, was always a lady, so kind, so gentle and harmless that she always had the sympathy and respect of all who had her in charge. Her age was about 65.

Mary Ayers Eddy departed this life May 30, 1902. She was born at Calais, Maine, April 30, 1837. Moving to Osceola, Wis. with her parents in the fall of 1846. She united with the baptist church at the age of eighteen and continued in the church work as long as her health would permit. It was never a burden for her to work for Jesus. She was united in marriage with Franklin S. Eddy of Taylor Falls, Minn, September 5, 1855. Three children were born to this union, Chas. A. Eddy of Chicago; Frank L. Eddy of Unionville, MO., and Mrs. John Utter of Columbus City, Iowa. Her husband died on May 23, 1872 at Taylor Falls, Minn. Her last sickness lasted but a few days congestion of the bowels causing her death. The services were held at the home of her daughter, Sunday afternoon at three o'clock conducted by Rev. J. H. Taylor, all of her children being present. Her two sons took the remains north to place them in the home cemetery by those of her husband.
