Christina Heck Charles was born in Baden, Germany April 9, 1829. She died at her home near Grandview December 9, 1901. She came to America in 1847, settling with her people near Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Here two years later she was married to Michael Charles, who survives her. With her husband she came to Iowa in 1857 and settled at Port Louisa, then a shipping point of considerable importance. Louisa county continued to be her home until death. Ten children were born to them of whom two boys and one girl died in infancy. Her oldest daughter, Mrs. John Kammerer, of Port Louisa township, died fifteen years ago. The six who survive to share with their father their great loss are Mrs. N. G. Coder of Letts; Mrs Katie Kirkwood of British Columbia; Mrs. Anna Richardson of Blodgett, Oregon; Mrs. Ida Judson, San Diego, California; Mrs. ? H. McGill of near Grandview and Joseph, the only son, who lives near Cairo. Her funeral occurred Wednesday, December 11, conducted by Rev. Theil, of Grandview.
