Elizabeth Garrett Courtney was born in Floyd county, Kentucky, January 27, 1831 and passed to her reward at Letts, Iowa, November 15, 1901 at a little less than 71 years of age. On the 16th of June, 1859, she was married to Robert Courtney. In the year 1857 they came to Iowa but returned to Kentucky in 1850, again they returned to Iowa in 1861. They settled on a farm five miles ? of Letts where they continued to reside until nine years ago when they retired and removed to Letts, where they lived until separated by death. Having met with a serious accident bout two years ago which resulted in a broken hip she was an invalid the balance of her life. At the age of 21 she professed religion and united with the Methodist church remaining a member of the same until (the rest is damaged)
