Mr. J. C. Briggs was born in Devonshire, Eng., March 4, 1827 and came to America in 1847, settling in Michigan. He was married twice and was the father of six children, whom with his wife, formerly Mrs. Sophia Church, are left to mourn his loss. Mr. Briggs was the eldest of a family of twelve children, Mrs. Harriet Curtis, of this place being the only surviving member. He has been suffering for several years with a cancerous growth of his eye and this was finally the cause of his death which occurred Friday October 11, 1901.
