Our people were shocked Monday morning to learn of the accidental death of Miss Mattie Rush of Ainsworth the evening before. On Sunday she and a younger sister, Minnie, accompanied by Chas. Laird and James Trotter of the same place, drove down to George Johnson's, near the City, for a short visit with Mrs. Johnson, aunt of the young ladies. While on their way home the team became frightened in some way and started to run. Miss Rush sprang from her seat and grasped the lines to help check the team. As she did so the wheel on the opposite of the carriage encountered an obstacle throwing her from the vehicle with such violence as to cause instant death. The team was almost immediately under control, but when they were turned back to the place, ---? Miss Rush was only seventeen years of age of a peculiarly bright and lovable disposition. beloved by all who knew her. No blame attached to any of her companions. Her funeral was held from the Methodist church, Ainsworth, Tuesday morning, October 15. The pupils of the high school, of which she was a member, preceded the cortege to the cemetery and, as a token of respect and grief, all business houses in Ainsworth during services. The surviving members of her family have the deepest sympathy of all.
