Mrs. Jane Vanbrunt Marshall was born in New Jersey, February 12, 1815, and moved Ohio, where she was married to Mr. Smith Marshall, and with him she moved to this state in 1849, settling upon the farm were her death occurred. Eight children were born to this union; three of whom, with the father have preceded her to their long home. Those remaining are: Mrs. Rome Mullin of Winfield, Mrs. John Humiston of Columbus Junction, Mrs. Ward Williams of Wapello, Mrs. George Maddux and Mr. John Marshall of Cairo. Besides these are 44 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren, who are left to mourn her loss. She united with the Church of god at Cairo in 1890, under the labors of Rev. Chamberlain of North Liberty, and it was one of her last requests that he should conduct her funeral. She has since lived a consistent Christian life, and her last words were those of advice and warning to the loved ones around her bedside. She sustained injuries about two weeks ago, in a fall, which proved fatal, and although her sufferings were intense, she bore them without a murmur until death came to her relief sabbath evening, August 15, 1901.
