After five weeks of intense suffering, another faithful servant of god left the land of pain and death for the land of life and rest. David Fetterman was born in Indiana county, Penn., November 20. 1820, and died at his tale home at Columbus City, Jul 3, 1901, aged 80 years, 7 months and 13 days. In 1842 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Tison. To this union seven children were born; all of whom, with the exception of two, preceded him to the spirit land. In 1855 he came to Iowa, locating near Dodgeville in Des Moines county and finally locating in Columbus City, where he remained until his death.

In 1866 he was married to Mrs. Rebecca Fleagle, who survives him. Early in his life he united with the Church of god, since which time he remained true and faithful to Christ until the master said "It is enough; come- up higher." For a number of years he was a ruling elder in the church, and was as faithful in his official relations as he was in all other relations. His Christian life has never been questioned. His was a career fraught with many trials and countless joys. Because of his great love for the Master, he bore his affliction with great patience and died in the full triumph of a living faith, having often during his illness testified to a willingness by song and prayer to o and dwell in the house no made with hands eternal in the heavens. Our departed brother was blessed with many kind friends, who did all they could to stay the hand of death, but to no purpose. after suffering five weeks from blood poison, he ceased from his labors. Brother Fetterman could well say, at the close of his long life of usefulness, "I have fought a good fight; I have kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness. He leaves a sorrow stricken wife, two children, four step children, and a host of friends and relatives, to mourn his departure. By the request of the deceased the funeral services were conducted by Elder J. M. Mullen, assisted by Rev. Ballard of the U. B. church. The remains were laid to rest in the Columbus City cemetery.
