William Skinner was born near Zanesville, Muskingum county, Ohio, April 11, 1832. His spirit took its flight on Saturday, July 24, 1897, aged 65 years, 3 months and 13 days. He came to Iowa in April in 1855 at the age of 21. On December 16, 1858 he was married to Miss Rebecca Higbee. To them were born ten children, three of whom died in infancy. A loving wife, two sons and five daughters survive him. All the children were present at the funeral; Mrs. Ella McKee arriving Monday morning from Kansas.

On November 29, 1890, Mr. Skinner united with the United Presbyterian church at Winfield. He lived a consistent Christian live, ever setting a good example before his children. He was a good husband and a kind loving father. He will be sadly missed both in his family and in the community in which he lived. A brother, Mr. John Skinner, of Columbus city and a sister, Mrs. Sarah Paisley of Crawfordsville, were present at the funeral. Two brothers and a sister in Ohio and one in College Springs, could not be present. On Monday, July 25, at 10 a. m. the funeral was conducted by his pastor, Rev. J. A. Shannon, Who spoke from words found in Numbers 23:10.
