Fanny Simpson Verink, wife of William Verink, was born October 28, 1839 and died March 10, 1896. She lived and died but a short distance from her birthplace, which was near the Cedar river in Cedar township, Muscatine county. She was probably one of the first white children born in Cedar township. Her death came very suddenly and unexpectedly having started from home about half past eight in the morning as well, apparently, as ever, she died at the home of her mother, about three miles east of home, at 2 p. m. Death was caused by the bursting of a blood vessel in the brain. Thursday, in the new Christian church, Rev. Cunningham of Letts, preached the funeral sermon to a large congregation of sorrowing friends after which the remains were interred in the old Jean cemetery. She leaves a husband, two children, her aged mother, one brother and a host of neighbors and friends to mourn her loss.
