Hugh T. Arthur dead. The whole community was surprised and saddened at the announcement of his death. Mr. Arthur was one of the pioneers of Columbus City township. He came here with his parents from Wales in 1844, being then but nine years of age, an grew to manhood on the farm where he died Saturday morning, January 25th. we can say that Mr. Arthur helped to improve our township to its present condition. Being here before a church or a schoolhouse was built, and before most of our land was in cultivation, he was a link between the past and present in the history of the county. As a citizen and neighbor he was highly regarded: his dealing with his fellow men were honest and trustworthy; his integrity was unquestioned, and his life was adorned with good works. He was an elder in the Bethel C. Methodist church and one of its founders. The church as well as the family circle will miss his presence and counsel. A wife, four sons and one daughter are left to mourn his loss. The funeral services were held on Monday at his late residence, and the large attendance of sorrowing friends testified more eloquently than words to the high esteem in which he was held. The interment was in the Cambrian cemetery.
