On Wednesday of last week a man giving the name of John Zimmerman, about 60 years of age, medium height and strongly built, stopped at the Union hotel kept by Mize & Sigafoos. He had but a few cents in money and told them so, and that he was looking for employment. He said he had been working in the mills at Burlington, Iowa, for several years past and had a brother or half brother, it is not certain which he said, at this place. He also stated that five years ago he had a good home and a family of five members in St. Louis, but had lost all of his family with in a few months and subsequently his home went to pay funeral expensive and in litigation leaving him homeless and penniless. He was given shelter and food by these kind ladies, and made an effort to find work, but with out success. On Thursday he was taken violently ill with billious fever. Dr. Summers was called in who did all that his skill could suggest, but of no avail. He died on Monday afternoon and was buried on Tuesday at the Tennessee cemetery. No word having been received from any quarter to indicate that he had any living friends. Mrs. Mize, upon whom fell the principal part of the burden of caring for him during his illness, did all in her power to make him comfortable; and although among strangers he was among friends.
