Sunday night occurred the death of captain Asa Barringer, of Columbus, Ohio. The sad even took place at the residence of G. L. Van Auken, of this place. Mr. Barringer came here to attend his brother in what proved to be his last sickness. While here, be began the erection of a residence on property owned by him in the suburbs of town. Two months or more ago he accidentally fell from the scaffolding, breaking a limb and injuring him otherwise. Not withstanding the best of car and attention he grew gradually worse until death came to his relief. The remains were taken to his old home for interment. He was born in Meigs county, Ohio, March 2, 1822. Was a captain on an Ohio steamer nearly all his business life. Was postmaster of Middleport, Ohio, during Harrison's administration. He was married twice. Both his wives are dead. He leaves one daughter, by his first wife, who is married and a citizen of West Virginia. he was a member of the I. O. O. F., a K. T. and a G. A. R. During his illness he was tenderly cared for by his niece, Mrs. Rardon, who came from her home in Ohio to attend to him as soon as he was hurt. All that the most untiring devotion could suggest, was done for him but all could not save his life. Mrs. Rardon is a lady of culture and refinement and made friends of all whom she met during her stay here. She has the sympathy of all in this bereavement as she was much attached to her uncle, who had made his home with her and her husband, for years. Short funeral services were conducted at G. L. VanAuken's on Tuesday afternoon by Rev. Pusey of the M. E. church of which Mr. Barringer had been a member for years. He died in the faith and passed away in peace. His remains were accompanied as far as Chicago by G. L. Van Auken and others.
