Mrs. Isabel (Johnson) Duncan was born in Monroe county, Tennessee, June 16,1846. She was the youngest child of Francis and Jane Johnston who came to Iowa in 1856. On the 4th day of September, 1866, the subject of this sketch was married to J. H. Duncan. The union was blessed with four children. The eldest, a daughter, died in infancy. Three boys O. F., H. L., and Robert, with the husband and father survive to mourn for a beloved wife and mother. Mrs. Duncan was taken sick on Friday, Aug 24. Death seemed to be there from the first. The next Friday, August 31, at 2 p. m., she passed away from earth, leaving her family and friends and neighbors sad at heart to think that they shall see her face no more on earth.
