The death of J. D. Rutt, April 30, 1894, was not unexpected, he having been a sufferer since January last. Mr. Rutt was born in Southampton county, Pennsylvania, in 1816 and died at his home in Cairo, Iowa, at the age of 78 years. He leaves a wife and four children, two sons and two daughters to mourn his loss and cherish his memory. He was a kind husband and loving father. He will be sadly missed in this neighborhood. He was a member of the Evangelical church and was a faithful christian always ready to witness for Christ. His place in the prayer meeting was always filled when he was able to be present. Funeral services were held at the church conducted by Rev. LeCornu. His remains were followed to the cemetery by a large number of friends and neighbors.
