Deceased was born in Chenango county, New York in 1829 and came to Iowa in 1848, locating at Muscatine and in 1859 he removed to Oakland township, Louisa county, to the farm on which he lived until his death. In 1854 he was united in marriage with June Campbell. Eleven children were born to them of whom John G., Jerome, Mrs. Corsena Wolfe, William and Carrie E., with the mother, survive. He held the offices of justice of the peace and township trustee for many years and had the well merited respect and confidence of his neighbors and many friends for his honesty and good citizenship. The needy and deserving always received his attention. He was a devoted husband, kind parent, good neighbor and steadfast friend. He will be greatly missed in the community as the world has been the better for his living. Rev. J. C. Beade conducted the funeral services at his late residence and the remains were followed by a long procession, through the snow storm of Wednesday, to the Swank cemetery for interment.
