The entire community was shocked Wednesday morning when it was announced that Mrs. Rufus Paschal was no more. The word was passed from mouth to mouth and many were the expressions of surprise and sorrow and sympathy that were heard on every hand. People could scarcely realize that one who had so lately been among us in usual health was now lying cold and still; and yet it was all too true. After an illness of only four days, she passed away Wednesday morning, February 14, 1894. She was born and brought up in Louisa county. Her maiden name being May, she being a niece of H. P. May of Columbus City. Her father died before she was born and her mother followed him when the subject of this sketch was thirteen years of age. Mrs. Linnie Paschal was born April 29, 1861, and would have been 33 years of age had she lived until April. She was married to Mr. D. R. Paschal, May 5, 1878, in Ellsworth county, Kansas. They made their home in Columbus city, until about four or five years ago when they came to Columbus Junction where they have since lived. She was the mother of six children, two of whom, a little boy ad girl, preceded their mother to the spirit world. four remaining to mourn with their father, their great loss. These are Zoa, Deronda, Nealy and Rufus; the eldest fourteen, the youngest, about three. Mrs. Paschal was a kind neighbor, and a most devoted wife and mother giving her whole time and attention to caring for her family. The afternoon before her death rev. Fouse called on her and she asked him to sing and pray with her. She will be buried from the Presbyterian church, of which she was a member, on Friday afternoon, February 16, at 2 p. m. The services will be conducted by Revs. Williams and Fouse.
