In the death of Mrs. Aletta Beard Jones of Concord township, Louisa county has lost one of its earliest settlers. She was born in Ohio in 1835 and came to Iowa with her parents in 1838. She died at her home in Concord township, three miles south-west of Letts, Saturday, February 2, 1894. Her disease was consumption contracted only a few months since though her health was been quite poor for some years past. The deceased was married to James Madison Garrett November 11, 1857. Mr. Garrett died December 3, 1861, leaving her a widow with two children, Middleton H. and Elnora M. The former was called away soon after the death of his father. She married a second time in 1873 to Andrew Jackson Jones, who died November 30, 1891. To them was born one son, Willie E. Jones, who with the daughter Elnora Bennett is left to mourn a mother's loss. Mrs. Jones was a good and kind neighbor and a sincere Christian a member of the United Brethren church of Letts, Iowa. She was beloved by all who knew her for her many excellent qualities. besides her children, she leaves a sister, Mrs. W. A. McNamer and two brothers, John and James bear and a host of friends. The funeral occurred February the 5th 1894 at 11 a. m. at the U. B. church in Letts. The services were conducted by Rev. D. W. Proffit of Cedar Rapids, assisted by Rev. Hicks and Rev. Cunningham. The remains were followed by a large cortege of friends and interred in the home cemetery, 3 miles south-west of Letts.
