Died at the home of her son, Tobe Brown, north of Letts, Nov. 4. Mrs. Julia Brown aged 83 years 2 months and 10 days. She came to Muscatine county in 1838, funeral Sunday Nov. 5, 1893. (See obit November 22)

Julia (Bromage) Brown died at the home of Mr T. M. Brown northwest of Letts on November 4, 1893, aged 83 years. The deceased was born in Virginia, August 24, 1810, came to Indiana when 10 yrs of age and was married to Mathew Brown February 14, 1828, moved to Muscatine county Iowa in 1838, her husband working in the capacity of surveyor. He took up a claim as one of the first settlers,; died in 1842, leaving her with seven little children; J. L., Emily, T. M., H. P., N. J., Lizzie and Banfield, the latte two having died in 1850, while the rest survive her, being at her bedside during her last illness. The services were conducted by the rev. Potter of Letts at the residence of T. M. Brown, with whom she lived and was laid at rest in Jeans's cemetery. Four sons, a daughter, twenty eight grandchildren and thirty four great grandchildren to mourn her loss. She was loving and kind in sickness, trouble and bereavement, a councelor and friend to all in the duties pertaining to life; she was a tireless worker. Having experienced all the privations of pioneer life, sustaining her entire family with the products of her own hands; she was always joyful and happy and those who crossed her threshold were heartily welcome. While she aspired to the highest morals of civil life she was ever ready to grasp the hand of the unfortunate and lift them above reproach.
