Nathan A. Smith was born in Louisa county, Iowa, March 19, 1855, and died at his home in Elm Grove township, same county, May 13, 1893, aged 38 years, 1 month and 24 days. He was married March 10, 1883, to Miss Susan A. Hoover, and to them five children were born, two of whom died in infancy. Three little boys survive their father. Besides wife and children, Mr. Smith leaves a mother, sisters and many friends to mourn his death. Last March Mr. Smith profess his faith in the Savior and passed away happy in His love. The funeral occurred on Sunday afternoon at Spring Run church, conducted by Rev. LeCornu. A large number of friends attended the funeral and testified the esteem in which Mr. Smith was held. The immediate friends have the sympathy of all in this great affliction.

(2ns story on page 5) Nathan A. Smith died Saturday with that dread disease, consumption; aged 39 years. Funeral services conducted by the Rev. LeCornu of the Methodist church of Columbus City assisted by Rev. Black of the Covenanter church of Wyman. Interment at Spring Run cememtery.
