Columbus Gazette, Columbus Junction, Iowa Thursday, March 30, 1893 page 8

February 19, 1893, at the home of his son-in-law, J. B. Syphrit, occurred the death of Joseph NcNatton, who was in his 84th year. March 8, Harriet F, daughter of Joseph McNatton and wife of J. B. Syphrit died at her home in Wapello township in her 58th year.

The same month on the 18th day, Henry Elmer, youngest child of Harriet F. and J. B. Syphrit, died of pleuro-pneumonia which entered his heart. Forty eight after taking a chill he was a corpse. He was born October 25, 1874, near Grandview, and died March 18, 1893 near Newport, Iowa, at his home. His age was 18 years, 4 months and 23 days. Henry was a good and obedient boy, had a cheering word for every one he chanced to meet. After the death of his mother, he became impressed that he should have a change of heart which conviction gave place to entire consecration, of which he gave an unmistakable evidence to all who were near him.

All three of the funerals were preached by Rev. R. S. Tague, of Lowell, Henry county, who is the present preacher at Fairview. The mortal part of Father McNatton has its last resting place in Grandview cemetery by the side of his faithful wife, who died August 1, 1873. Harriet and Henry were buried in the Fairview and Henry were buried in the Fairview cemetery in sight of their home in Wapello township.
