Columbus Gazette, Columbus Junction, Iowa Thursday, February 2, 1893 page 8

After long, weary months of suffering, Mrs. Jenkins is at rest. She died Monday morning, January 30, 1893, at the home of her sister, Mrs. Emily Miller, Wapello, Iowa. Her funeral occurred at 2 o'clock, Tuesday, January 31. Adaline Bell was born at Quick's Mills, Wayne county, Ohio, Jun 1, 1837. She was the second daughter of Harvey and Abagail Bell. At the age of eight years, she came west with her parents and settled six miles south of Wapello, on the Burlington road. This county continued to be her home until nine years ago when she moved with her husband to Little Rock, Arkansas. She has been identified with educational work almost her entire life. She taught her first school in Port Louisa township when only fourteen years of age. Of the forty-one years spent by her in school work, nearly twenty-five were in connection with the schools of Wapello. Nearly all of her pupils in this county have grown to man and womanhood. She united with the Methodist church in Wapello in 1858 and was a member of that church organization at the time of her death. July 31, 1867, she was united in marriage to John Jenkins, who with a brother and two sisters, George M. Bell, of Cedar Falls, Mrs Emily Miller, of Wapello, and Mrs. Ettie Miller, of Little Rock, survive to mourn their great loss. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Condit, of the Presbyterian church. The pall bearers were W. A. Silverthorn, George Foor, Harry Blanchard, George Isett, Wm. Morgan, and D. C. Thomas, all old pupils of hers. There is a feeling of profound sorrow at her death. Mrs. Jenkins was a noble, good woman.
