Mrs. Dr. Clapp died at her home in Iowa City, Wednesday, April 27. Her remains were interred at Wapello, Saturday last, April 30, at 10 o'clock a. m. Caroline Marcella Ringer was born at Hagerstown, Indiana, May 31, 1841. Her father was Dr. A. P. Ringer, and she was the fourth of the five daughters that constituted the children of the family. She came with her parents to Iowa in 1848. They first settled at Blue grass, Near Davenport. In 1851 they came to Wapello, where her father died in 1852. This has been the family home ever since. The mother and four daughters survive to mourn her loss, this being the first death in the family since that of her father, forth year ago. She leaves an only child, a son, Norman Barrett, of Leavenworth, who was with her during her last sickness, and who took part in the last sad rites. The surviving sisters are Mrs. Virginia Silverthorn, Wapello, Mrs Indiana Olmsted, San Diego, California, Mrs. Louisiana Harrison of this place, and Mrs. Iowa Hale, San Diego, California.

The funeral took place from the residence of her husband, Dr. Clapp, Iowa City. It was conducted by the faculty of the State University led by Dr. Pickard. The remains were brought to Wapello Friday evening. Mrs. Clapp was a very benevolent woman and one who never forgot the needy. At the time of her death, and for many years prior she was the president of the "Silent Ministry," a ladies benevolent society, whose especial care it was to look after and help poor children, particularly destitute little girls. A large concourse of people, both at Wapello and Iowa City, testified by their presence their esteem for the dead. Bereaved friends, especially the aged mother, have the warmest sympathy of all, in their sad affliction.
