Local – Wm. Gray, Father of W. H. Gray Esq., died at his home in this township, Monday last, at 10 pm after a long illness. Obituary next week.

Obituary - Wm. Gray, whose death we announced in our last issue, was born at Stratfordon Avon, England, in October, 1824. Came to America with his father’s family and settled at Baltimore, Maryland in 1831. Subsequently removed to Columbus, Ohio and from there came to Iowa in 1840 and located a part of the land still in his possession at the time of his death. He was married in 1847 to Miss Stronach, who still survives him. Three children were the result of this union. One, a daughter who died in infancy, the others, Ed Gray who lives on the home farm and W. H. Gray of this place. Mr. Gray was never a member of any church, but was known and respected as an affectionate husband, kind neighbor and honest man.

His disease was an affection of the spinal cord and thought to be the outgrowth of a fall several years ago.
