Leo Z. Nichols Funeral Monday

Funeral services were held here Monday afternoon for Leo Z. Nichols, 56, well known garageman, who died at Veterans hospital in Des Moines on February 14. He had been a patient at the hospital much of the time during the past two months following several months of declining health. A veteran of World War I, Nichols had for the past 20 years operated the Motor inn garage here, and most of his adult life was devoted to some phase of automotive repair work. Nearly all of his life was spent in Morning Sun.

The son of James and Mary Jane Cocayne Nichols, Leo Nichols was born in Morning Sun on October 11, 1894. On March 3, 1926 he was married to Alta Swan who survives as do the following children: Mrs. Macelline Tray, Chicago; Cpl. Sherman Nichols, Army Air Force, San Antonio, Texas; Pvt. James Nichols, USA, now overseas; Mary Ellen Nichols, at home. Also surviving are a grand-daughter; two sisters, Mrs. Z. H. Jarvis, Morning Sun; and Mrs. Martha Wright, Phoenix, Arizona; and two brothers, Dale Nichols, Des Moines, and C. H. Nichols, Morning Sun. Two brothers and a sister are dead.

Funeral services were conducted in the Presbyterian church by Rev. O. L. Byrns, formerly pastor of the church and now of Warrensburgh, Missouri. Songs for the service were by Robert K. Nichols with Mrs. Eloise Kerr at the organ. Mrs. Neal Wolfe and Mrs. Paul Tonkinson were in charge of the flowers.
