Funeral Sunday for Mrs. Jennie Sterett
Funeral services for Mrs. Jennie Sterett, who died in Seattle, Washington on February 11, were held Sunday afternoon at the Pierce funeral home with Rev. Robert Dodder, pastor of the Morning Sun Methodist church, officiating.
Songs for the service were by Mrs. C. C. Irvins and Mrs. L. Ray Wilson with Miss Nellie Curran at the organ. Pallbearers were Walter Weinrich, L. C. Rohlfing, C. H. McClurkin, E. J. Walsh, E. S. Simpson and Leroy K. Pierce.
Out of town people in attendance at the services were Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Latta, Washington; Mrs. Mildred L. Courts, Denver, Colorado; Mrs. G. L. Cress, Riverside, Mrs. W. H. Cress, Iowa City; Mrs. Rose Clump Mediapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Weinrich and Rosemary, and Mrs. Jack Huddleston.
The following obituary was read at the funeral services:
Mrs. Jennie Latta Sterett, 81, was born in Linn County Kansas, on March 19, 1870 and died at Seattle, Washington February 11, 1951. She was the daughter of John P. and Sophia Passmore Latta, and moved to Iowa with her parents in June 1875. She graduated from Morning Sun high school in 1886.
She taught in the rural schools prior to her marriage to David C. Sterett. Mr. Sterett was a Rock Island station agent and they were located at Nora Springs, Reinbeck and Conesville and for the last 30 years prior to their retirements with the Rock Island lines, were located at Riverside, Iowa. Following their retirement from railroad work they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where Mr. Sterett passed away. Mrs. Sterett then moved with her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harry J. Jones to Seattle were she had made her home since. The sister died in December, 1949.
Mrs. Sterett was a life long member of the Methodist church and also a member of the Daughters of American revolution.
She leaves of her immediate family, one brother, J. Kirk Latta, now living at Washington, Iowa; also 3 nieces, Mrs. Walter Weinrich of Yarmouth, Mrs. Mildred L. Courts, Denver, Colorado and Mrs. Dorothy Latta Horner of Norwalk, Conn., and two nephews, Randall Latta of Washington, D. C. and John S. Latta of Dallas, Texas. Two sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.
