R. T. Jones is Called By Death Message. Pioneer Resident Of The Welsh Neighborhood

Robert T. Jones, for many years president of the Cotter Savings Bank, and a prominent pioneer resident of Louisa county, passed away at the home of his son, W. O. Jones, south west of town, Tuesday, August 19, 1919, after an illness of only short duration. He had been in very poor health for several years, but had been able to be up and around until a few days ago.

He was born in Liverpool, England, Feb. 27, 1836, his parents being natives of Wales. They came to America and lived in New York, then in Ohio, and on to Iowa in June, 1855. Robert was the oldest of six children and he grew to manhood on the farm south of Cotter. He attended country school and later went to college at Miami University, Ohio, where he graduated. He taught school in the winter and worked on the farm in summer, until the death of his parents, when he took the active management of the homestead and was a very successful agriculturalist, Mr. Jones took an active part in the religious affairs of his community and throughout his life was greatly interested in the political affairs of his country. He was a republican in polities and from 1880 to 1886 served on the Board of Supervisors of Louisa county.

In Feb., 1864, he was united in marriage to Miss Dinah Davis, who passed to the world beyond five years ago last February. They were the parents of four children: William O., who owns and operates the old homestead, H. T. a banker of Hartline, Wash., and who was here at the time of his father’s death. Two children died in infancy.

He is survived by one sister, Mrs. D. G. Lewis, of his city and eight grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held from the Zion Congregational church at 2 o’clock this afternoon and burial will be made in Cambrian cemetery.
