Mrs. Carrie Gibbs Dead At 98

Mrs. Carrie E. Gibbs, 98, Morning Sun’s oldest resident, died January 31 at her home here following an illness of about one week. She had been a resident of the Morning Sun community for the past 51 years. Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Warren Frahm were held Saturday afternoon Feb. 2 in the United Presbyterian church. Burial was in Elmwood cemetery.

Mrs. Gibbs was born the daughter of Christian and Caroline Wickershimier on March 7, 1858 at Williamstown N. Y. In 1901 she was married to Oren Gibbs. The couple lived for a time at Elmwood, Ill., later moving to a farm west of Morning Sun. They moved to Morning Sun in 1906.

Mrs. Gibbs was preceded in death by her husband and two sons, Lucian and John. Surviving are 10 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Morning Sun’s Oldest Resident Dies at 98

MORNING SUN - Mrs. Carrie Gibbs, Morning Sun’s oldest resident, died Jan. 31 at the age of 98.

Mrs. Gibbs died at her home after an illness of one week’s duration.

Last rites will be conducted at the United Presbyterian church, of which Mrs. Gibbs was a member, at 2 p.m. Saturday. The pastor, the Rev. Warren Frahm, will officiate, and burial will be in Elmwood cemetery, at Morning Sun. The body is at the Pierce funeral home.

Mrs. Gibbs was the daughter of Christian and Caroline Mucilerlila Wickershemier, and was born at Williamstown, N. Y., on March 7, 1858. She was married to Oren Gibbs in 1891, and they lived at Elmwood, Ill., for a time, later moving to a farm west of Morning Sun. They moved into Morning Sun in 1906.

Surviving are 10 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Her husband and two sons died previously.
