EVELYN M. WHITHAM

Evelyn M. Whitham 72, died Sunday, May 25 at the St. Francis Continuing Care Center, Burlington, after an extended illness.

She is survived by three sons Marvin, Holstein; Kenneth, Mediapolis; Robert Whitham, Burlington, 9 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers and three sisters – Lyle Gibbs, Burlington; Merle Gibbs, Mt. Pleasant, Dale Gibbs, Oakland, Calif.; Hazel Ross, Earlham; Eyloe Rumbolt, Knoxville Tenn.; and Betty Baker, Monrovia, CA.

The daughter of Lucian and Jessie Aronhalt Gibbs, she was born April 8, 1908 at Mt. Union, Iowa. On June 24, 1931 she married Forrest Whitham at Sturgis, South Dakota.

They made their home in the Morning Sun community. She was a member of the Baptist Church of Yarmouth. She was a retired school teacher and had taught in many of the schools in the area.

Visitation was held Tuesday. Funeral services were conducted 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 28 at the Pierce Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Wigand officiating. Pallbearers were Dan Blair, Ron Gibbs, Lloyd Dearth, Dr. David Hull, Gene Bozarth and Roger C. Delzell. Assisting with flowers were Kathie Hull and Mary Bonar. Organist was Geneva Samuels, and Gayle Carleton was vocalist.

Burial was in the Elmwood cemetery with the Pierce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. A memorial has been established.
