Little Lucile Shew Dies at Burlington Hospital
SECOND DEATH IN THE FAMILY
Margaret Lucile Shew, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. E. Shew, was born on the home place near Wapello, Iowa, November 23d, 1908, and died at Burlington, Iowa, January 23d, 1915, aged 6 years and 3 months.
Three weeks ago a trouble developed in her left ear, supposedly mastoiditis. Local physicians did their best, but she grew worse and two weeks ago was taken to the Burlington hospital, where the best specialists that could be secured were consulted. But the hand of death was upon her and despite all that tenderest devotion and loving hands could do she slipped out into the great beyond Saturday, January 23d.
There preceded her in death three sisters and one brother. The eldest sister, Erma, passed away only five weeks ago. But again they are united in a land where sickness and sorrow cannot come. For the Savior said, "Suffer the little children to come unto me, for of such is the kingdom of heaven." On January 18th, the death messenger called for the aged grandmother, Mrs. Carrigan. Again we are reminded that though we are in the midst of life we are also in the presence of death.
Besides the bereaved parents there remains one brother, Wm. Orland, and one sister, Mable Isabelle, to mourn her loss, besides other relatives and hosts of friends, who deeply mounr her death and extend deepest sympathy to the sorrowing family.
The funeral services were held at Mt. Hope school house conducted by Rev. A.W. McBlain. The school house was packed with relatives and friends. The casket was covered with floral tributes from loved ones and neighbors. The interment was made in the Indian Creek cemetery, where amidst the beautiful flowers she was laid to rest beside Erma. Thus we depart one by one.
