Dorothy Pontzius

Dorothy Mae Pontzius of Silvis, Illinois, former of Cairo and the Wapello (Iowa) area, died Saturday, September 25, 2004, after a brief illness. She was born January 26, 1925, in Yarmouth (Iowa) daughter of Glenn and Pearl Housman.

She worked at Eckstrom’s Baker in Milan (Illinois) for nine years. IN 1966 she moved to South Park Bakery in Moline (Illinois), retiring in 1986. Her working days were spent decorating wedding cakes for many new brides, numerous birthday cakes for young and old, and really special cakes for her grand kids!

Survivors include her husband, Leland “Pud” Pontzius of Silvis; a daughter Vickie and Phil Slightom of DeWitt (Iowa); two sons, Dennis and Sue Pontzius of Dewitt and Daniel and Shirley Pontzius of Moline (Illinois); six grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; sisters Pauline Lee, Morning Sun (Iowa) and Lois Rubbins of Wapello (Iowa); and two brothers, Floyd Housman, Yarmouth (Iowa) and Pete Housman, Mount Union (Iowa).

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two sisters, and a granddaughter.

The family met with friends at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rock Island (Illinois) on September 28. A private family graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., October 16, 2004, in the Cairo Cemetery near Wapello (Iowa) with the Rev. Chris L. B. Thomas officiating.
