MRS. L. C. WONNELL DIES AT BOONE

Mrs. L. C. Wonnell, age 86, a resident of Wapello practically all her life, passed away last Friday night, April 26th, in the O. E. S. home in Boone, Iowa, where she had been for the past year.

Anna B. Mincher was born in Wapello, Iowa, August 27, 1843, the daughter of Edward and Eliza J. Mincher. On December 31, 1874, she was united in marriage to L. C. Wonnell, and to their union one son, Charles Lyman, was born. Charles now resides in Davenport and is the only survivor, the husband and father having passed away in Wapello in December 1927.

Mrs. Wonnell was well known in Wapello and Louisa county as she conducted a millinery store, handled dry goods and later ready to wear apparel, for more than fifty years. She and her husband were prominent in the business life of the city for half a century and lived to celebrate their golden anniversary with friends of the years calling at their home to enjoy the day with them.

When compelled to give up active work bcause of the infirmities of age Mrs. Wonnell went to Davenport to maker her home with her son; then later asked to be taken to teh O. E. S. home where she was happy and contented, and found great pleasure in writing to and receiving letters from friends. She was a charter member of the Easter Star chapter of Wapello and was ever faithful to attendance when health permitted.

Thus another of the pioneers of the city has passed to her reward and a large concourse of friends gathered at the First M. E. church in Wapello Sunday afternoon to pay a final tribute to her memory. The service was held at 2 o'clock, with the members of the Eastern Star attending in a body. Rev. C. E. Ward offered prayer.

Rev. C. E. Burdine read the 23rd psalm as a scripture lesson and the sermon by Rev. B. G. Hankins was based on the first verse of the shepherd psalm, "The Lord Is My Shepherd, I Shall Not Want.: Mrs. Millicent Winter and Mrs. Nita Schwoh sang "Abide With Me," and "Lead Kindly Light,"and at the close of the sermon the officers of the Eastern Star Chapter gave the memorial service with Mrs. G. W. Oakes as Worthy Matron; Louis Keck, Worthy Matron; Mrs. C. L. McCurkle, Mrs. M. D. Thomas, Mrs. H. L. Davison, Mrs. Leo Plmb, Mrs. R. L. Davison, star points, Mrs. Louis Keck, Chaplain; Mrs. H. B.
