Bessie Elizabeth “Betty” HendrixBessie Elizabeth “Betty” Hendrix, age 85, of Wapello, Iowa, died Tuesday morning, December 23, 2003, at the Great River Medical Center at West Burlington, Iowa. The daughter of Fred Scott and Gladys Mari Dickerson Westbrook, she was born July 23, 1918 at home in Louisa County (Iowa).
Betty graduated from Grandview High School and attended Muscatine Junior College (Muscatine, Iowa). She worked at several Muscatine locations including the button factory, Evans Food Store, Thatcher Plastics, and as a credit manager for Sears for fourteen years.
She enjoyed reading, quilting, and working crossword puzzles. She had belonged to the Ladies Eagles.
She is survived by two daughters, Ardith Thomas of Muscatine (Iowa) and Patricia Ann Fry of Wapello (Iowa); a son, Loren Hendrix of Webster, New York; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren, and a brother, Scott Westbrook of Grandview, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter Marlys; two brothers, Neil and Arlie; and a sister, Rita.
The graveside service for Betty Hendrix was held on Sunday, December 28, 2003 at the Grandview Cemetery (Louisa County, Iowa). A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the Wapello Rescue Unit.
