Grouwinkel, Michael D – The Wapello Republican, October 9, 2014 accompanied by a photo.

Michael Dean Grouwinkel, age 44, of Cape Coral, Florida and formerly of Wapello, died Sunday, September 28, 2014 at his home. The son of Kenneth Dean and Edith ‘Edie’ Nehring Grouwinkel, he was born on June 10, 1970 in Washington, Iowa.

Michael graduated from Wapello High School in 1988. He served in the U.S. Army from 1989 to 1993 twice being in Saudi Arabia. Michael also served with the Iowa National Guard in Clinton for several years. He worked at Grimm Bros. Plastics in Wapello for about 10 years and moved to Florida and has worked as a Direct TV installer.

He enjoyed bowling and golfing and was a fan of the Buffalo Bills and the Hawkeyes.

Michael is survived by his mother, Edie Grouwinkel of Wapello; his brother Kenneth & Brenda Grouwinkel of Muscatine; a niece, Kassandra; and a nephew, Devin. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth.

A memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2014, at the United Methodist Church in Wapello with Rev. Pam Kranzler officiating. Military rites followed provided by the Wapello VFW Glenn Allen Post 5166. A lunch fellowship followed at the Fellowship Hall of the church.

The family met friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello.

A memorial fund has been established.
