H. G. Dircks Rites Were Held Today

Henry G. Dircks, 79, died at his home in Columbus Junction Monday afternoon, May 2, 1955, following a lengthy illness. The body was removed to the Stacy Funeral Home where services were conducted at 2:40 this Thursday afternoon by the Rev. E. D. Emmel, pastor of the Central Presbyterian Church. Masonic services will be conducted at the grave side in the Columbus City cemetery.

Mrs. June Fulton, Mrs. Carma Norton, Mrs. Kathryn Hughes and Mrs. Dorothy McConahay sang “My God And I” and “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere”, accompanied by Mrs. Wilma Roundy, organist.

Casket bearers were Richard Dircks, Robert Dircks, Jerry Bell, Howard Bell Jr., William Boulton and Howard Kulp.

Mr. Dircks was born September 8, 1875 in Germany, being a son of Karl and Carolyn Schneul Dircks. He came to the United States at the age of sixteen and settled at Lowden, Iowa. His marriage to Minnie Gehrls on October 8, 1896 took place in Lowden and in 1916 they moved to Columbus Junction which has since been their home. Mr. Dircks farmed in this community and for a time was associated with an Implement Co.

He was esteemed by a wide circle of friends.

Survivors include his widow, two sons, Leo and Ralph, both of Columbus Junction, four daughters Mrs. Howard Bell, Mrs. Earl Frisk and Mrs. H. W. Eliason, all of Columbus Junction and Mrs. Curtis Wells of Washington; one brother Gustave Dircks and one sister, Laura Duvendach, both of whom live in Germany; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
