Donald Odle

WAPELLO, Iowa - Donald Leroy Odle, age 86, of Wapello, died Friday, May 28, 2004 at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 2 at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello. The Rev. Donald Swanson will officiate. Music will be provided by organist Kathleen Hagele and singer Anita Odle. Casket bearers will be Todd Odle, Steve Odle, Kurt Odle, Dean Carpenter, Rob Pforts and Pete Hall. Burial will be at the Wapello Cemetery.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 1 at the funeral home. The family will meet friends from 6-8 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of Wapello Fire & Rescue and the Wapello Community Ambulance Service.

Donald was born Nov. 10, 1917 in Wapello, the son of Robert and Myrtle Hartsock Odle. He married Helen Mae Ferguson on Nov. 21, 1942 in Canton, Mo. She preceded him in death July 3, 2002.

Donald was a farmer and also a 20-year retiree from J.I. Case in Burlington. He enjoyed farming, woodworking, his sawmill and working with machinery, especially fixing things for others. In earlier years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include two sons, Mike and Geraldine Odle of Meeker, Okla. and Kurt and Janice Odle of Wapello; a daughter, Patti and Dean Carpenter of Waterville, Kan.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, 'Sis' Schwob of Wapello and Charmian Jones of Phoenix, Ariz. as well as two brothers, 'Skip' Odle of Burlington and Hilton Odle of Wapello.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen; a sister, Kathelyn Hall and a brother, Charles Odle.
